The bee feeds on pollen, nectar and water. This food of the bee is called bee pasture. Honey bees need enough of it around the hive. A diverse and varied habitat is important in this regard. Private individuals, municipalities and companies can get involved in shaping it, for example through

  • a bee-friendly balcony design,
  • the creation of flower-rich planting beds in the garden,
  • bee-friendly planting of available green spaces,
  • species-rich seeding for fallow land and agro-ecological field use, and
  • the development of structurally rich landscape elements.

The Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry provides a list of specific recommendations. You can find these here.

In addition, there are plenty of suggestions on the Internet for creating bee-friendly gardens, e.g. “The Bee-Friendly Garden” by Sebastian Schläger or “Plant a Bee Garden” by Max Karänke.

You can also get further advice from our experienced beekeepers, preferably in a personal conversation at Events.
