The original beekeeping museum was set up in the attic of the Gumbrecht restaurant in Obermembach in the fall of 2010. On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Beekeepers Association Herzogenaurach und Umgebung e.V. in 2011, it was opened by Klaus Becker at that time.
The Heimatverein Weisendorf and the beekeepers In Herzogenaurach and surroundings have the common concern to preserve and revive regional customs and traditions. This also includes local beekeeping with its over 1000-year history.
That is why the exhibits have now found a new home in the Weisendorf local history museum (Reuther Weg 16, 91085 Weisendorf) since May 2023. There they are accessible to a wider public, because the museum is – this was important to the initiators – barrier-free.
The section beekeeping in the local history museum Weisendorf shows various historical utensils of beekeepers from the region. The exhibits provide a good insight into the development of hives and extractors, for example. But also special constructions from the beekeeping trade can be seen.
The exhibition is divided into the following areas of beekeeping art.
- The beekeeper’s equipment
- The home of the bees
- The extraction of honey
- The production of the frames
- The breeding of queens
The enthusiasm of the visitors is usually reflected in the many questions asked. It is a pleasure for the active members of the beekeepers association Herzogenaurach and surroundings to answer them and thus to impart the necessary knowledge for the preservation of bees.
